OVERVIEW

Working with Boring Merch has been an incredibly positive and rewarding experience.
What started as a focused task to launch a new product line, evolved into a comprehensive brand evolution.

Boring Merch, originally a custom NFT merch company, sought to expand its footprint into the snack industry. Over the course of our collaboration, I had the opportunity to touch nearly every visual aspect of the brand. From designing the "Boring Bites" snack line to refreshing their core visual identity and preparing exclusive packaging for major industry events such as Apefest Las Vegas 2025.

The design was built on the idea that "apes dont read", so I prioritized visual clarity and community vibes by using the client's MAYC, "Borey" as the star of the show for both the front and back of the packaging.

For Naked Mutant Cashews, I used an aquamarine background to keep the origin of the mutants background trait and added illustrations of falling cashews with mutant serum dripping off them to fit the aesthetic.

The Sweet Nana Chips follow the same concept but use a vibrant yellow bag and banana chip illustrations to signal the flavor change instantly.

I also created a custom bag for a community member, Nicky’s Honey Nuts.
Using their BAYC and adopting the purple background trait to create a familiar look that stays within the actual NFT.

Every bag in the collection includes general product information alongside custom badges for a website QR code, a "Packaged in the USA" stamp, and a "Made by Apes" badge to showcase its roots in the community.

I wanted to create total harmony between the wordmark and the new brand symbol.

The first thing I did was edit the existing logo by removing the original black and grey double stroke.

By getting rid of the black and changing the grey to a clean white, I gave the logo a more vibrant feel and a modern look that allows the typography to stand out clearly.

By maintaining the established typography and the signature pink graffiti style font, I swapped out "Merch" for "Bites" to clearly distinguish the snack products while ensuring the sub brand feels like a natural extension of the primary identity.

SYMBOL

The creation of this new brand symbol was inspired directly by the brands MAYC, Borey.

I integrated key elements from the character, such as the melting mutant face and the signature merch hat with flames, while slightly tilting the eyes to capture that subtle sad look.

To ensure the brand colors remained a central part of the identity, I designed the symbol as a badge, which allowed for a clean integration. This new mark provides a recognizable and scalable icon that brings total harmony to the brands evolving visual ecosystem.

Combining the new symbol with the updated logo gives the brand a complete and unified feel. This evolution allows the brand to maintain the wordmark as the primary identity while providing a versatile symbol that works perfectly for small scale applications where a full logo might be difficult to read.

MERCH HANG TAGS

MERCH HANG TAGS

On the left is a hang tag designed for the Bored Ape Yacht Club and Boring Merch collaboration for ApeFest Las Vegas 2025. The front of this tag features a sticker of the merch design so buyers have a small collectible in addition to the product, while the back displays the logos, Made by Apes license, website, and the event name.

The hang tag to the right represent the updated look for Boring Merch. The front shows Borey facing forward with the brand logo at the top and a tear effect in the bottom corner that reveals the full symbol in a patterned design. The back of the tag features a patterned visual of the symbol in white and pink with a subtle wordmark. Leaving enough space for information to be placed.
